Mi Nueva Casita, My New House

Mi Nueva Casita, My New House

Mi Nueva Casita, My New House

There are a lot of emotions when it comes to moving. Leaving something you know for something new and different can be really exciting. But that doesn’t really erase the nostalgia and sadness of leaving.

So with all of that being said…we are moving! We are departing our wonderful city on the border in El Paso, Texas and we are heading East, to Virginia Beach. None of it is easy. We love it here so much, this community has been so incredibly good to us. When we found out that we were moving, it was a lot to adjust to, and still is. I will miss being able to speak Spanish everywhere I go, I will miss the wonderful Tex Mex, and most of all, I will miss this dynamic and welcoming community. Being surrounded by my Latino culture has been amazing, and it is something I will never forget.

Leaving one home for another is daunting. But I would be lying if I said that I’m not excited for the idea of moving into a new house. Starting a new adventure in a new place definitely makes life interesting, even if it brings its share of challenges.

Moving, especially with little kids, involves a lot of change. New schools, new people, new places. They don’t quite understand the concept of leaving our house and moving to a new one. They’re still trying to wrap their heads around what it means to leave our home and move to a new one. I think that’s why my kids have become really interested in snails lately. Snails carry their homes with them, wherever they go. Not that they go anywhere very fast, but still. They carry it all with them. I designed this Spanish housewarming card thinking about snails and their little portable homes. They take everything with them, packed in their colorful shells. I wish that we could take everything with us too, nuestra casita and all of our community.

Unfortunately this isn’t possible! But what I tell my kids is that even though we can’t take our house with us, our home will come with us wherever we go. Home is where we make it.

Wishing you a happy weekend 💜☀️
